Week of 12/6

Hi All,
Here is a quick plan for next weeks runs. It is all stuff we have done before, so if anyone want anything different let me know.
Monday, 12/1
Meet at 6:45 at Greenlake Parking Lot by Tennis Courts – I think a run nice outer run around the lake is good for the day after the Seattle half, but in industrious folks can do Rogers
Thursday 12/4
Meet at 6:45 Sturgus Park (North Beacon Hill)- 7 miles out out back
Saturday 12/6
Meet at 9 at Seward Park - 15 miles - 1 loop of Seward Park 5 miles out and back and then another loop of Seward Park

Thanks,
Andrew

Post Race Drinks - Buckley's

232 1st ave W, seattle wa 98119
From the finish area - I think it is 5 blocks west on Mercer to 1st ave W - then about 3 1/2 blocks south on 1st.

Happy Thanksgiving all. I am very thankful to have such wonderful teammates to train with, and for all the positive peer pressure! Hope you all had a great run today. Who added the count down? that's great - we should add a team photo too!
So who wants to take on next weeks runs? I can't - work is so crazy i will be lucky to make even one run next week - and will probably have to depend on some of that peer pressure to make even that.

I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving and everyone doing the Seattle Marathon/half marathon on Sunday has a great day. I will be thinking of you as I attempt to hit the ski slopes for the first time this year. There is not much snow but hopefully it will still be fun and if nothing else it should count as my cross training for the week!

Thanks All

I'm so glad I joined the group for the run tonight. This morning I wasn't motivated to run. As it came time for the run, it was clear Lee and Andrew weren't particularly motivated either. Thank goodness for teammates, we all made it and we all ran. Thanks for the motivation (or should I say pressure) everyone.

Thank You Andrew - a run report

So - it's been a tough week at work and I really needed to run last night (also I was in charge of scheduling this week's runs - so felt I needed to show up) But I knew Jen had to work so I wouldn't have my usual running partner and I thought MAYBE I could keep up with Sarah (if she took some pity and slowed down some).

By the time I was crossing I-90 on the way to the start - I knew that it would only be Andrew and me. Yikes! I called him and tried to cxl - my rational was he wouldn't want to run as slow as I run, I didn't want to run that route by myself and a warm dinner and my couch were calling my name loudly. Andrew said no problem he would run with me - he was at the start he would wait 5 min until I got there. At this point I was at the Rainier exit and headed to the start. Geeze, I love group pressure!

We started out on the run - it was a beautiful night - clear w/ a couple of high clouds and mostly dry pavement. I did my best to keep a decent pace (for me) and we stayed together having a nice conversation. When we got through the tunnel the view of lake Wa and the eastside was beautiful. Down the stairs and along lk Wa blvd - I was starting to slow down a little and asked if we could go 5 miles not 6. Andrew said yes - then recanted and said "come on it was only out a 1/2 mile more and I really do want to run the whole 6" - so on I trudged.

I then told Andrew run as fasts as you want to the turn around - I'll keep going and turn around when you get back to me. It worked (i got a little repreive and Andrew got to run a little). We headed back and I guessed that I could keep a slightly faster pace if I walked the stairs - so on we went.

When we got to the stairs - I asked Andrew to RUN the stairs twice (maybe he would tire a little) , but couldn't get him to bite. I made it to the top and as we headed back through the tunnel I picked up my pace and thought of it as interval training (its only pain - it won't kill me). Andrew even noticed that I was going a little faster! I was hoping for lots of cars at the two crosswalks so I could catch my breath - where are they when you need them? I continued my "interval" training back to the start w/ about 5.75 miles (Andrew got the full 6) . All in all it was a great run for me!

Andrew - Thank you! I appreciate your gracious attitude and the company/conversation during our run last night!

An idea for Saturday's run...

The schedule calls for 12 miles on Saturday. I was messing around with mapmyrun.com and made a quick route heading north from the Leschi Starbucks, through the Arboretum, to Husky stadium, hop on the Burke Gilman up to Ravenna park. Run through Ravenna park, make a U-turn at Cowen park and retrace our steps. It came out to just over 13 miles but I have no idea how accurate that website is. Does that sound like an OK run for Saturday? It's mostly asphalt but at least there are nice parks and scenery along the way. Or does anyone have a suggestion for Saturday? I'm open to anything.

Thursday Run - 6 miles and a full moon

Hopefully the storms will pass and we'll have a lovely (and dry) run this Thursday, lit by moonlight and city light. Popular vote has chosen Lake Union as our 6-mile run. We'll meet at 6:45 PM in the parking lot across from the Marriott Courtyard on the SW side of Lake Union. Hope that makes sense. See you Thursday! Still working on Saturday's location for our 12-mile run. Stay tuned...

So, Andrew...

(excuse the public post, everyone, I don't have an email address for Andrew) Is it Mark Terwilliger that you know/knew at K2? That's a Mark that came to mind after we chatted on Saturday's run...

West Seattle Run on Saturday 11/8/08

We will meet at Luna Park Cafe and copies Barb's run. Here is a map to our starting point:

Monday's run

Hi all,

It's my turn to host the training week. Is this the schedule we are following? http://www.halhigdon.com/marathon/novices2.htm

I've had out of town guests all week so have done no research on Thurs/Sat runs at this point, so I'm open to suggestions. For Monday the 10th, let's meet at the Green lake tennis courts at 6:45 PM as usual. I'm thinking 3 1-mile repeats at 1 min faster than anticipated marathon pace (plus warm up and cool down). I'm guessing the track will be a big mud bog, so we'll most likely run along the east side of the lake up to the Starbucks corner and back.

11 miles on Friday, November 7

January 25 Run In Port Ludlow

Hello,

As many of you know, I am once again signed up to do the Victoria Half Iron Triathlon with Team in Training. As you also know, this requires me to fundraise for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I am trying to be a bit more creative with my fundraising this year so I came up with the idea that I would fund raise by staging a long run followed by a meal for the "Look Out Austin Here We Come" group.

Here is the plan. For your long run on January 25, 2009 you would travel to my beach house in Port Ludlow Washington. I will mark out a run at the distance or distances that each of you wish to run. I will provide support along the route including water stops. At the end everyone can shower and then my family and I will prepare and serve a meal (menu has not been decided yet).

If anyone wants to stay the night they are welcome, the Olympic penninsula is fun to explore including Port Townsend. I will provide directions when it is closer to January 25 but if you live in the South end you can get to Port Ludlow in 1 hour 45 minutes. From Seattle you should probably count on 2 hours. Start time is negotiable so feel free to think about it as a group.

If you decide to participate in this fun outing I am asking for a minimum donation of $50.00 to my TNT fundraising. And for the first 8 particpants that contribute Dennis and I will pick you up at the Kingston Ferry terminal so you do not have to drive on the Ferry and worry about lines.

We look forward to your participation. Donations can be made at http://pages.teamintraining.org/wa/nbhtri09/knyrop. And please respond to this blog or send an email to me at nyrop.karin@gmail.com to let me know if you will be participating.

Go Team!!
