Post From Emily - Dinner Reservation Issues
I am having quite a challenge finding a place for 12 for on the Saturday before the marathon. I have had a few restaurants tell me that can’t accommodate that many people, a few say they are booked, and one that doesn’t take reservations for under 15, but they won’t take reservations on Valentines Day. I’ll keep trying but we may start need to think about other options (eg, spliting up, figure it out when we get there, or do the race pasta dinner (which is $30 per person).

Thank you for your efforts - I'm leaning towards the race pasta dinner (easy - sure thing) but I've never been to one of them - does anyone have general past experience to help me make a decision?
Emily - try making reservations for 2 parties of 6. Sad we won't all be at the same table - but resturaunts can usually accomidate this. They may even be able to put those 2 tables of 6 near each other but they won't be able to guarentee that until that evening -as it will depend on the configuration of table based on their other reservations.
Or, as a last resort, we could just order a meal from the catering department or restaurant of one of our the hotels.
I've eaten at pre-marathon pasta parties before. They're certainly convenient and decent food but nothing special. Iceberg salad, regular spaghetti with red sauce (usually one with meat, one without), garlic bread or other rolls. They tend to keep it on the bland side since no one wants spicy food the night before a race.
One I did go to though, we had to stand in line for 45 min, not fun the night before a race. That said, neither is waiting for a restaurant table and not eating until 9:30 PM when you hoped to be in bed by 10.
I'm fine with whatever, including room service. The post race food is when we'll all be bingeing and celebrating anyway! :)
The difficulty I am having is the Italian places I have contacted are just totally booked. I am not giving up, but the chances look grim and I am leaning towards us just all getting together for the post-race fun, as opposed to trying to coordinate the dinner for 12...
On the positive side of things,
I have some great recommendations from someone who lives in Austin (just two miles from the hotel area) on places right by the hotel that would be good for our post-race imbibing and eating. I'll add a post with the list of places she sent me (complete with websites).
