I'm so excited to hear the details - Melinda? Emily? Sarah?
Anyone care to post a race report on this blog???

I'm actually thinking about running my first marathon... the California International in Sacramento in December 2010. It's a fast course (net downhill) and has a high Boston qualifying success rate.

I like the sound of that Steve. Keep me posted.

Baker Lake 50K Race Report:

The brief summary--it is a great course, beautiful surroundings and good support. I highly recommend it. Anyone who has run a marathon could finish it and enjoy themselves.
It is an out and back along Baker Lake with occassional beautiful views of Mt. Baker. The trail is in great condition, so not a lot of worries about roots and rocks. There are some slippery bridges, but they're short.
Around 80 people registered, but only 65 ran it, so there were long stretches where I was running by myself, just enjoying the peaceful surroundings. They allow people who expect to take longer to complete the course to start an hour earlier than the main pack. Since I had just recovered from an injury, I opted for the early start while Emily stayed with the regular start. We saw each other twice along the way which was a nice chance to check in and encourage each other. We had great service at the turn around where Andrew personally filled our water bottles, very nice.
Overall, a great first 50K.
Anyone want to run it in 2010?

Slippery bridges? Any ladders? or happy boardwalks? Glad to hear you had a great race. Sorry don't think I will be up to a 50K. If I am lucky I will be up to that down hill marathon Steve mentioned for Dec 2010.

Sarah how was portland?

No ladders or boardwalks, but there was one log we had to cross to get over a stream. I thought of you. The nice thing that is different about the ultra distance, it's okay to walk. I think it's almost expected on all the up hills--gotta like that. :)

Thanks guys!

The Portland Marathon was awesome!! It is a fantastic race, great first marathon. Very well supported, pretty course, good crowds, etc.

It was definitely hard. I thought it would take me about 4:40, but it took me a full 5 hours. Guess I have something to work for for the next one!

Barb was amazing... up with us at 5:00 am and out on the course. She ran the last 5 miles with me, which was so helpful... I was really wanting to walk but she kept me going.

I was very sore and hobbling around after the marathon. I did a mini-ice bath (thanks for the suggestion Lauren!) and stretched after. My legs actually felt better on the day after than the day of, so I was pleased (and relieved!)

Thanks everyone for your support throughout my training! WHOOHOO!!!
